“Kind words can be short and easy to speak, but their echoes are truly endless.” -Mother Teresa
“Alma’s yin yoga classes always provide the right balance for me. I have a fast paced lifestyle and I take Alma’s yin yoga classes in order to slow down my mind and my body. I feel recharged and calm after every class. In addition to her unique style and approach to yoga, Alma has a kind spirit that lights up the room. Whether you are advanced in your yoga practice or a beginner, Alma’s classes provide the right instruction at the right time. She is an inspiration to me and does not shy away from delivering the gift of yoga practice in many different formats.”

“I started yoga when I weighed close to 300 pounds. It was hard for me to believe that someone who was not Curvy could understand what I was feeling, but Alma did. I couldn’t do what everyone in class was doing, but Alma encouraged me to keep moving and loving my curvy body. I was able to heal, and grow and learn how to love myself from the inside out. Through yoga I was able to loose well over 100 pounds, but it is not the external weight loss that even matters now. It is the weight in my head, the weight in my heart and the weight of the world I have learned to be free from. She is truly the best Yoga Instructor I have ever studied under. Compassionate and encouraging!”

“About three years ago, I was introduced to Alma and shortly thereafter began what has become the most transformative journey of my life. Each week during my private session, Alma challenges me physically, mentally and spiritually on the mat. But what she has also taught me is how to practice yoga throughout my everyday life – to breathe through the hard stuff, to find comfort in the discomfort, to root myself, to be mindfully aware of myself and others, and to remember that God is with me and is in me. I truly can’t thank her enough for sharing her talents with me. When I have been out of town, I have practiced yoga with other instructors and nobody compares. She is truly the best. “

“Alma is the hardest yet most compassionate loving yoga instructor. She pushes you yet with her tone and voice she loves on you. She cares about you and your struggles and wants to make you stronger mentally and physically. She loves chair like peanut butter loves jelly. She is wise yet humble. She is strong yet open to your vulnerabilities. She is passionate yet soft. She is my favorite yoga teacher and guru. If she could be my family I would be eternally grateful. Not many have the depth of her and all should get a piece of her to make your life bigger. I love and respect her so very much”

“I’m neither super flexible nor a big fan of group classes. As luck would have it, the first time I went to a yoga class, Alma happened to be the instructor. She has a real gift for making people feel comfortable. She’s focused on tapping into each person’s needs, cautioning beginners not to go too far and inviting those with more experience into deeper poses. I love her sense of humor, her sense of community and her infectious love of sharing her gifts.”

“I remember going to your Yin class in 2018 and I was hooked at first Om. Yin baptized me into being a yogi that I am now and has introduced me to other types of yoga. I always appreciate your messages and how you hold space for your students. Yoga with Alma has transformed me physically but the best results have been mentally and emotionally. The best quote you have shared with me is that “the practice begins when you step off the mat.”—

Alma has defined what Yoga means for us both. She not only brought us together with her Monday night Vinyasa flow, but she has given us so much guidance both on and off the mat. Between the two of us, we have been practicing with Alma for over a decade learning about the art of yoga, balance through the chakras, the teachings of Thich Nhat Hanh and how to better love ourselves and each other with grace and patience. She brings so much more to her classes than just a series of poses. She creates a loving and supportive community wherever she goes, and after just one class we both knew we wanted to be a part of her community forever! Alma challenges her students to bring lessons learned through class to their everyday lives by embracing hard times, breathing through change, and always seeking self-improvement. She has given us a foundation to live our lives by and we wholeheartedly and genuinely recommend Alma to anyone seeking to learn about Yoga or continue their practice. Alma is the Yoga instructor/life coach that everyone needs!

I have been a human DOING for as long as I can remember. I was a competitive water skier for seventeen years and diagnosed as an “adrenaline junkie”. My first tournament was at the age of 49 and I was both an avid swimmer and cyclist.
DeAna S.
Simultaneously, I began taking yoga classes to counteract the intensity of those sports and the load they put on my body. Many years later, I suffered an injury that ended my waterskiing career. That, coupled with additional life stressors, led me to develop anxiety. I tried desperately to become a human BEING.
Doctors kept telling me to exercise more – not hearing me when I said that was all I did all day. Ultimately, I made the personal decision to quit every exercise I was doing and tried to meditate more. Enter Alma Dunnavant with her Slow Flow and Yin Yoga. As she emphasizes in her classes, the body must have rest and the mind, peace. Serenity comes from slowing both the body and the mind down and allowing them to regenerate.
Alma’s YIN yoga focuses less on alignment and more on what your body is
telling YOU it needs. The poses are then held for a period of up to three (3)
minutes allowing for the facia, more familiarly known as connective tissue, to become less rigid and more pliable. This has a tremendous impact on the body’ flexibility. Another treat in Alma’s class is a taste of Bhakti Yoga. She brings her harmonium to class and encourages her students to chant OM as a mantra in a format of call and response. She may also sing a verse and the class responds with the same verse. The reverberation of the repetitive sounds helps with so many restorative functions of your body. So, TREAT YOURSELF to a class by Alma, adopt a home practice implementing her teachings and evolve from a HUMAN DOING to a HUMAN BEING.
