Yin Yoga
This Yin pose is one of my all-time favorites to do. This pose helps me settle and decompress from a long day. As some of you know, I love Yin Yoga. So I will be blogging one a week to share with you my favorite yin poses.
Stretch
This is a really nice way to stretch out the lower back without requiring loose hamstrings. When doing this pose, straighten your legs a bit scooting your feet away from your groin creating a diamond like shape with your legs then begin to round your back and fold towards your feet at your own degree. Use props as necessary to help you feel stable.
Contradictions
If this pose is hard on your pelvis and knees–they can aggravate sciatica, so if you have this condition please elevate your hips and sit on a folder blanket or some type of yoga prop to elevate the hips so that your knees are below the hips. Be mindful to have your hips tilting forward.
Joints Affected:
Hips
Lower Spine
How long do I hold the pose?
If you are a beginner start with 90 seconds, then gradually increase your hold time to 3 up to 5 minutes. Remember to hold these poses in a passive way. Relax into them and mindfully breath. Take each yin yoga pose to your own degree. You are your best teacher, learn how to listen to that inner wisdom.
